Miroslav Vitous' new CD honors Weather Report
Czech bassist Miroslav Vitous was an original member of Weather Report, the pioneering fusion band founded in 1970 by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. In its early years, Weather Report straddled an acoustic-electric fault line, leaned on sketchy compositions and intuition and spanned a continuum of sophisticated post-bop, jazz-rock and free jazz exploration. The aesthetic was communal.
