First the good news: Eighty percent of weekend days this summer in New York were sunny or partly sunny.

Now the bad news: All that sunshine -- while delightful -- means there hasn't been nearly enough rain.

According to the National Drought Mitigation Center, northern portions of Oswego and Cayuga counties are in a moderate drought. Other parts of Central New York, including Onondaga County, are "abnormally dry."

Rain fell on only 12 weekend days this summer in New York. And as we enter autumn, David Nicosia of the National Weather Service said he expects things to stay that way for a while longer.
